Documentary about the life of the citizens of Trogir, one of the most beautiful Croatian cities, whose exceptional historic legacy was inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List

The life of the citizens of Trogir has been greatly influenced by the fact that they live on the stone on which at least two and a half thousand years of history have been written. This continuity of urban life, uninterrupted since the ancient times, and the town’s extremely valuable cultural monuments are the reason why Trogir has been a part of UNESCO's World Heritage List since 1997. About one thousand people live in the UNESCO-protected city core. It is filled with all kinds of institutions, like the court, an elementary school, the city government and museums; as well as numerous stores, restaurants, cafés, galleries, banks...

The documentary “Trogir – Life Under the Protection of UNESCO” is a dynamic story about the magic of life in the town core made of stone, where the summer is characterized by tourist bustle, and the winter by the emptiness of a small Mediterranean town.

Trogir citizens discuss their lives. Vedran Harašić is a young singer of traditional songs, who also works as a fisherman with his brothers, and as a locksmith at the shipyard. Everyone comes to fix their shoes and chat about everyday issues with shoemaker Toni Parčina: his workshop is an important center of the town’s social life. Dr. Ivo Babić, an art historian from Trogir, speaks on the importance of preserving urban life.

In Trogir, artists are still constantly creating new paintings and statues, and old houses are renovated with stone taken from a nearby quarry, just like it was in the olden times. Laundry is still dried in the courtyards, and the stone lanes are filled with the smell of homemade lunch and traditional cakes. They count as Trogir’s attractions as well, and they may be just as valuable as the monuments.
